Doi Intanon - a mountain in the province of Chiang Mai

Doyintanon, Doi Intanon - a mountain in the province of Chiang Mai, the highest point of Thailand, composed of granite and batholith. Height above sea level - 2559 m, according to other data - 2565 m. The mountain was formerly known as Doiluang, but later renamed in honor of the ruler of the kingdom Lanna, whose remains are buried in the mountain.

Doi Inthanon National Park is the most famous national park in Thailand. Thailand has 96 national parks in total, but only Doi Inthanon can boast that its territory contains Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon, which is 2,565 meters above sea level. At the top of this mountain, even sometimes (every couple of years) snow falls in winter! It happens that the temperature there drops to minus 8 degrees. And this is in Thailand!

The national park was created in 1954. The park area is 1050 sq. M. You can't get around it on foot 😎

This area is inhabited, there lives the local population, which is engaged in the cultivation of agricultural crops. And at the very top of the mountain is a military base.

Doi Inthanon National Park in Thailand is located near Chiang Mai. The distance to the entrance to the park is about 60 km, and to the top of the mountain - 100 km.

How to get to Doi Inthanon National Park

On my own transport: car or bike. We traveled by car, although we thought that we could ride a bike. Well that did not go! The road is continuous serpentine, very high mountains, cool, the bike would not be comfortable .. Although many ride bikes

In Chiang Mai, you can buy a group or individual excursion to Doi Inthanon Park.

By public transport: take a bus from Chiang Mai to Chom Tong (1.5 hours on the way), and then hire a song called Doi Inthanon. The cost is about 500 baht (17 dollars), which will take you to the peak of the mountain and back.

Doi Inthanon International Park is famous not only for the highest mountain in Thailand, but also for its waterfalls. Total on the territory of 7 waterfalls. But usually four of them visit.

The first Mae Klang Waterfall is the most easily accessible. Located right on the road to the top of the mountain. His first we visited. Walking from the parking of vehicles to the very waterfall of Mae Klang Waterfall is just a few minutes - 150 meters.

Mae Ya Waterfall. This is the highest waterfall in Thailand (260 m). Mae Ya Waterfall is located a little away from the main waterfalls, you have to go to it on another road, not the one that leads to the top of the mountain. In general, it is better to go to the falls Mae Ya at the very beginning.

The next waterfall is Wachiratkan Waterfall. This is the strongest, loudest and powerful waterfall. It looks like the most popular 😎

Near the Wachiratkan Waterfall several cafes, you can eat or drink a cup of coffee. Nearby organized places for recreation.

It is strictly forbidden to swim in all these waterfalls! The flow of water is very powerful, the stones are slippery and sharp.

A little before reaching the summit, at a height of 2142 m there are two stupas built in honor of the 60th anniversary of the King and Queen of Thailand in 1987 and 1992. Inside the Queen's stupa, the stories of the great Thai women are written and painted. Well, the Buddha is certainly worth it. The Escalator leads to the King's Stupa, which is on the next hill, as well as to the Queen’s mortar. Inside the King’s Stupa, the four sacred sites of Buddhism are described. And Buddha. Sits 😎
