Palace of Justice

The Holy Chapel is a Gothic reliquary chapel on the territory of the former Royal Palace on the Cite Island in Paris. Erected by Louis Saints in 1242-1248. Possesses the most complete ensemble of stained glass art of the XIII century, is considered one of the most beautiful gothic churches of small size.

The Palace of Justice is considered one of the main attractions of Paris. It is located in the center of the city, its first arrondissement, in the western part of the Cite Island, not far from the Notre Dame Cathedral. The complex of buildings of the Palace of Justice includes the court and the Prosecutor’s Office of France, criminal police and municipal services. The main entrance to the Palais de Justice is located on its eastern side, on Boulevard du Palais Boulevard. The main facade of the building in the style of classicism dates from the end of the XVIII century. From the south and north, the building overlooks the banks of the Seine, the Embankment of Hours and the Embankment of Jewelers. In the building, which is located on the quay of Orfevr 36, is the prefecture of Paris.

Earlier on the site of the Palace of Justice was the City Palace, which from the Xpo XIV century. was the residence of the French kings. Only the Conciergerie prison and the chapel of Saint-Chapelle are preserved from the palace. After the uprising in 1358, which was headed by Étienne Marcel, King Charles V left the palace, and the royal residence moved first to the Hotel Saint-Paul and then to the Louvre, the royal court administration, the Paris parliament, the Accounts Chamber and the Treasury continued to operate in the palace. All work on the design and construction of the Palace was performed by the architect Engerrand de Marigny.

The palace is joined by the notorious towers of the Conciergerie, which for a long time served as a prisoner for prisoners, within whose walls the criminals were cruelly tortured and tortured. The Clock Tower, decorated with a flower bas-relief, looks very beautiful. But the chapel of Saint-Chapelle in Paris is considered to be the most amazing and luxurious structure of the posh complex. The Holy Chapel is one of the true wonders of Gothic architecture.

The church is located in the depths of the complex of the Paris Palace of Justice. The sun's rays play in the multi-colored stained glass windows of the chapel and make the walls shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow. The building consisting of stained glass has two floors and a twisted elegant staircase. The Church of Saint-Chapelle in Paris, built by Louis, is a real example of ancient Gothic. In the summertime, the music of classical musical instruments plays in the chapel.

Tourists and natives of Paris who want to feel the strength and power of this “time keeper” and an eyewitness to many historical events can visit the complex on any day (except for official holidays). Guests can visit directly the Palace of Justice itself, as well as see the museums, which are located in numerous castle buildings:

The labyrinths of basements and prisons are what survived from the first palace of kings

The building of the Conciergerie is a former prison and possession of a concierge (the entrance there will cost about 7 €. The museum is open every day until 6 pm.)

The halls of the guards and military guards, as well as the cells of prisoners awaiting the death penalty, are located in Concierge, the former "death of the reception"

Saint-Chapelle - the church and the holy chapel, originally built as a repository of plundered relics, can rightly be called one of the most beautiful churches. (The visit will cost about 8 €)

The hall of the disappearing steps is considered the central room of the palace complex.
